Pilates Thursdays

I have been staying strong with working out during  my lunch and it is a good thing. I would have never gotten the opportunity to take the classes offered.

I took a Power Class on Weds and let me tell you 440 calories later in 35 minutes I wanted my mama. The lady was tough and criticized my crunch, and push – up forms. She was just what I needed. You cannot tell me that I cannot do something. Trust me I take this as a challenge. Instant competition with myself. That was the best workout I have had in awhile. I showed a lot of enthusiasm. My heart rate reached 186!!!

Today, I took a Pilates class for the first time and it rocked! I got to stretch, work on my flexibility and concentrate on my core. It was amazing. I need to do it more often. Just taking the deep breaths and focusing on particular poses really energized me and relieved some stress!  My knee has limited my flexibility on my right side and that used to be my most limber spot.  I think a combination of this class and maybe a yoga class might help me rehabilitate my knee. It no longer aches and I have more flexibility but I prefer for it to go back to the  flexibility it used to have.

Friday I am going  back to Power Class lady’s class. To die. Well at least feel like it! LOL, and then, after work I am going to meet my sister to participate in an epic bike ride called critical mass. Every Friday at the end of the month, Hundreds of Houstonians come out to do what: Ride Bikes! It is different, it is cooky, and it is right up my alley when it comes to interesting fun. Well, I will blog about that when I have a moment!

Workouts at Work

I decided to work out while at work and utilize the amazing gym that my job offers. I decided that my lunch break is the best time to take advantage. If I go too early, I will miss out on time with my dog, and if I stay later, my dog will suffer (Not going to the potty in over 7 hours). Lunch time works perfect. I am thinking about incorporating my last break into that as well so I do not have to worry about factoring in dress time.

Monday: I hit a Women’s Health magazine 15 minute burn with a 10 minute session on the elliptical.

400+ Calories burned not bad for a quick workout, I also saw my second ab make it’s debut. Just call me 2 ab Davis!

Tuesday: I did 20 minutes on the elliptical and worked on my obliques in a different way. I used the ab crunch machine and sat on it sideways and worked each side with 3 sets of 25 with 50lbs. Can you say Obliterated. This was also short and sweet but I burned 300+ calories. Not too shabby.

I plan on stepping it up each and every time I go into the gym and I have taken a few classes there. I will keep you guys updated. Pilates on Thursday and I have not decided what to do for Weds just yet. I wish I could work out in the evenings but the GMAT has my commitment for the next month. Small but effective workouts have to be done.

Weekend Recap

This weekend in Houston could not have been more perfect.

We are actually having a spring, and it is wonderful! I set my Sundresses and hats out, hung out outdoors with my dog, went to the park, and enjoyed great company. I mean there were no complaints.  Despite me adjusting to this new work schedule that requires me to work the weekends, I went to a crawfish boil, ate well and worked out. The sodium in the crawfish, however, made me bloated. I never noticed how foods  inflate you and make you feel puffy. Cleaning up my diet has given me such insight. I see now, why I should stay away. I no longer see food as food, I see the fat, sodium and sugars it possesses  This change was needed especially with the goals I have in mind. I ran with my dog in the park for about two hours, Did a mini circuit that required me to do 3 rounds of 25 crunches 25 mountain climbers and a 1 minute plank (which has surprisingly gotten easier!) I might add 10 burpees in the mix next time just to get my heart rate up. I also did the little cross fit butt blaster routine and ended my day with a light jog back to my apartment.

I didn’t take any pictures but I did read a few books this weekend and shop I bought this romper from Asos

and some shorts and a tee from Forever 21. I guess you can say I was extremely productive? Maybe!

Annoyed ain’t the word

What do you do when someone is constantly trying to question your credibility? Your supervisor cannot solve everything. In an attempt to make themselves look better(my best guess at them always questioning my analysis of things when it comes to my job) I always get a negative word or question when it comes to my work. I am a lot younger and aggressive than some of my other counterparts and frankly, I never thought that that could be a threat. But to this person I work with daily, I am beginning to think it is. I have already had to have a talk with my supervisor present, to ask this person, what can we do to at least get along and have respect professionally and apparently it only worked for a few months. I am over this persons undermining and no longer care if I have their respect or not. They really need to back off. It is really hard to not come off as the angry black woman in the office when individuals continue to piss me off. I digress.
