Thursday WOD

This Thursday my workout consisted of:

  • 15 min run for a warm up
  • 30 second plank
  • 2 min jump rope
  • 10 hills
  • 4 min jump rope
  • 20 hills
  • 3 rounds of 30 second planks
  • 5 rounds of 6 reverse pull ups with a body band

Whew! what a workout! I should have snapped some pictures, but sometimes when you’re in the zone you are only concerned about surviving the workout and water lol!

Yesterday was my little brothers 27th birthday and my mom went all out and cooked a ultra southern meal. Fried cabbage, fried pork chops, homemade macaroni and cheese, red beans and rice, fried chicken, green beans, baked chicken, and chocolate cake. Oh and Kool-Aid. My mom did her thang! I of course could not say no to such a delight, and ate like it was going out of style. LOL. Let the bloat come on! It was worth it! Thanks Mom!

This Labor day holiday, I think I am going to go to a pool party a friend is hosting, and go to my Family Reunion in the country. I have some choices to make a big part of me wants to lay low and relax and chill out, but family comes 1st so you might catch me on the road to the country! Hope everyone is having a fabulous Friday!

Tuesday Workouts

Garage Fit did it again,

My workouts just keep getting better and better. I really was proud of my performance yesterday! I was a little nervous because I tend to struggle on my 1st days back after a 2-3 day break from my session with my trainer. I grabbed my dog from Doggie day camp and booked it to my trainers. Traffic in Houston was…..difficult to get around.

Yesterday’s workout consisted of:

Warm up: 15 min run w/ Gizm0

3 rounds of:

  • 15 dead lifts w/ 135lbs
  • 15 squats w/ 115lbs
  • lunges up and down the driveway on an incline 6 times (3 up the driveway, 3 down the driveway)
  • 50 jumping jacks with rope
  • 7 hills

After I found out how much I deadlifted and squatted I felt like this:

I got a 3 minute rest in between the rounds, and it was intense! Having my dog there really distracted me though. I didn’t complain. I have another session this Thursday before Critical Mass and I am contemplating working out for Bootcamp on Saturday since I don’t have a hair appointment this weekend. I ended the night by going home, cooking a nice chicken pasta meal ate that and had some cantaloupe for dessert I cut up earlier in the week. Yum.

My trainer thinks that I can do better and I can step it up even more. I am shocked. I did not know he had that much faith in me. Shoot. Well that goes to show you, that you should give yourself more credit! It’s nice to have someone who thinks you can do amazing things and encourages you to take it to the next level! Did I mention having a personal trainer/working out is in a little way a form of therapy? For me it is. If I have had a bad day, I just take all my anger, and channel it into my workout. If I am feeling lazy or that I cannot do a certain workout, my trainer is there to push me.  Well hope everyone is having a productive humpday!

Attitudes

We all have attitudes towards events that happen in our life right? I believe so. Difficult times, and or choices we have to make can really have an effect on our feelings about ourselves and how we are perceived towards others. I believe that if we are able to get a handle on our reactions, and adjust our attitudes towards difficult events, we can be far more prosperous.

I was dealt a deck of cards on Monday that made me want to binge eat, and wallow in my sorrows. I told myself, wait, you need to process before you react to the cards you were dealt, and think of how you can effectively solve your problems. I found that all the anxiety I was feeling, all of the angst and the “What am I going to dos” turn into, I can get through this. Hassels  happen everyday. Shoot about 10 happened to me yesterday! I still found time to smile!

So I hope this encourages someone to turn the frown and complaints around and actively process your issues, and find that the solution may be in front of your face while you were too busy wallowing in the negative what if’s. Just a little pick me up for those who are feeling down and out! Hope it helps!

School has started and I will try to keep up with my blog as much as I can, but It may be put in the pile of I can do it later. I have had to look at all of my commitments and had to decide what is more of a priority in my life at the moment.

School is number one, my job is too. I have commitments with my job and volunteering, and working out. My dog is up there high too. Then comes the little things, vacations, friendships and events, outings, fantasy football, ect. Those go on the back burner. Sometimes this is needed. So you wont over commit and under produce. I will keep you guys posted as much as I can!

Random Weekend

What a weekend!

I started out my weekend by going to a cousins birthday at a local zydeco bar/restaurant called Jax. Zydeco is a music genre that comes from Louisiana that has a fast tempo and an accordion is heavily involved in the music. They had a live band and the dance floor was packed! It was fun and I am not that talented in the dancing portion of Zydeco, but it is fun to watch and attempt. I have a video on my instagram feel free to check it out here

After that I went home and woke up the next day ready for bootcamp. No one showed up but me. The workout consisted of:

  • 45 second rope thrusts
  • 45 second jumping jacks w/ rope
  • 45 second box jumps
  • 45 seconds high knees
  • 45 second 5 part sprint/runs 150 yards

A new Water Bottle for my Workouts I can freeze!

20130826-142720.jpg

Post Workout!

3 rounds of this in the hot, and humid sun and I was beat! Also, a funny side note. We were at a field and I had hydrated prior to me working out. The problem is, my bladder is on the weaker side, and I had to GO! I had to stop on my second round to take care of this. My trainer was concerned I didn’t have any toilet paper and I was like I would just have to make due. I take showers after I workout. LOL.

After that I got a call from a friend in Austin inviting me to a boat party. I thought why not. So I packed Gizmo up and made the 3 hour trek to A town! The boat party was fun. Gizmo likes a house environment and it was good to see my friend.

Passenger seat side!

I packed up on Sunday made the trek back. I studied for about 2 hours and read the 1st chapter for school (I am trying to be studious), and ended the night watching the VMA’s. Miley Cyrus was a disaster if you want my honest opinion. To end the blog on a good note here is a quote or a motivational paragraph! It gave me life, I hope it gives you some too!

Beast Mode and some

Good Morning,

I woke up this morning a little stiff, and you know what! I am very okay with that. I am starting to do some lifting in my workouts and boy, let me tell you, it is interesting. Not only is it a challenge, it really takes concentration. Yesterday’s workout with #GarageFit consisted of:

15 min run for a warm up

25 hills

3 sets of bench-press w/ 20lb barbell @15 reps

3 sets of reverse pull ups with body band

3 sets of bench-press w/ 20lb barbell with 10lbs on each side @15 reps

3 sets of shoulder press w/ 40lb barbell

3 sets of reverse planks hold at 30 seconds each

3 sets of dumbbell lat flys w/ 10lb weights

3 sets of dumbell hammer curls w/ 10lb weights

15 hills.

Beasty. I have also found that if I eat a Banana w/ peanut butter. My performance increases dramatically. So tomorrow I am attending #GarageFits Boot-camp. I will definitely blog about it on Monday! Also, I picked up my books for school, and I need to go buy a few notebooks for notes! I need a laptop too, but that can wait.  I typically always have access to a cpu. A laptop is just far more convenient. Happy Friday everyone!

Tuesday WOD

This was the workout I did yesterday. I did it with so much enthusiasm, my trainer was shocked. He wondered what had gotten into me and whatever it was, I needed to keep on with it. I told him it was probably my food intake. That was my guess. My guess was also, that I was coming off of a Mini Vacay and my spirit was refreshed. Hopefully I can keep my enthusiasm up. I ran 25 hills and did not complain once. I did 16 in a row without one tiny break. I did not let the fatigue discourage me. The only thing I was not successful at was my workout on the pull up bar. That’s okay, I will work at it.   I hit the punching  bag like someone had offended my Mother! I was in a rare, but welcomed beast mode. Do you guys have days like this? It felt amazing that my trainer was happy about my performance. Let’s see how Thursday pans out. I am excited.

Today I read the latest entry from the Ascent blog and she challenged me. To do what I feared the most. 10 pull ups!!! I am going to do it. By the end of this year. I am going to do it! Watch me work! Another update on my ever changing physique. My abs are starting to play peek-a-boo. This means one thing. They are on the rise. I have never had abs. Well I have had a silhouette (What I am working with now) If I keep up with my clean eating, and my workouts, I will have a little something something. I will keep you guys posted! HURRAH!

Mini Vacay

Where do I begin!!!

I went to Dallas for a few days to get away before school begins. It was my last little hurrah before I really tie myself down and dedicate my time to my studies. I started out around 9am packed my bags, and Gizmo’s stuff, filled up my tank and I was off! I arrived in Dallas around 1. Got Gizmo settled and caught up with my homegirl I was staying with. She was taking a little girls hair down and I helped. Why not. It was cool. Then we went out to a lounge called Winston’s. It was a nice little spot. It was difficult to find!!

20130819-193546.jpg

After that we went to fuel city tacos and that was… Interesting. Lol. Well the way people dressed/acted.

The next day I woke up early for a ten minute run, and a 20 minute walk with gizmo and my friends dog Peanut.20130819-193537.jpg

I guess I had one taco too many? Lol. After that I met up with a friend who used to live in Houston at Max’s Wine dive. Delicious as usual. I highly recommend the wings and the cinnamon rolls are amazing. I didn’t even know they had those!

After that I took a huge nap and went to Al Biernats with my good friend, Brandi,  that also lived in Dallas for Dallas Restaurant Week. I had an arugula salad, steak and potatoes with green beans and key lime pie for dessert! Yum! 20130819-193604.jpg20130819-193557.jpg

After that we went to this Chocolate bar and the chocolate was amazing. They had a live band and tables set up to play cards, dominoes, chess ect. It would be perfect for a first date. After that we went to Sunset lounge where I met my friends Alumni friends and went home after that.20130819-193611.jpg

Sunday, I walked the dogs watched TD Jake’s with my friends parents and went to brunch with friends(Nakia and Brandi) . The food was delish. We ate at The Greenroom Cafe. It was wonderful. After that I relaxed went to Petsmart for Gizmo and went to Maggianos for dinner. The food was superb!

Overall, I had an awesome trip and I look forward to going back. The weather was far less humid and I got an opportunity to roll my windows down! Hope everyone had an eventful weekend!

Workout Struggle

What workout isn’t a struggle?

On Tuesday I absolutely struggled. I threw up, I felt queasy, I kept quitting. I was disappointed in myself. I tend to go through this once a month. It was all due to my diet the past weekend. Eating the right kind of foods absolutely pays off. Well, on the weekend I ate fried chicken and had a coke, and on Sunday my only option in the hospital(Where my niece was being born) was McDonalds. So of course, I struggled something serious. Here was my workout:

Warm Up: 15 minute ,jog 15 hills

Workout:

  • 10 box jumps 10 lunges
  • 30 jump squats
  • 10 squats with 25lb weights in each hand
  • 10 lunges on an incline with 25lb weight
  • rope thrusts with 15 squats

This workout was intended to be repeated for 3 rounds, and I only  made it to one. Hopefully today’s workout can be conquered and I can pick up my pride and ego off the ground. I am not going to let this one bad day discourage me. There are going to be more highs in workout sessions than lows. After all, the workouts are meant to be challenging.  If you aren’t feeling challenged then, you might not be as productive in your workouts as you could be. Today I will strive to do my best.

I’m an Aunt…again!

The 3rd times a charm!

20130812-132136.jpg20130812-132151.jpg20130812-132144.jpg

That is for sure! This weekend, I got the prestigious honor of being there when my oldest brothers 1st child was born. I was so excited. I mean, life is truly amazing. Kayla Michelle Davis was born around 5pm on 08/11/13, weighing 8lbs 13oz and being 22 inches long! She is a pretty little girl, and the new parents couldn’t be any happier. I have a niece (4) and a nephew(1) by my younger brother.

I pretty much spent the weekend doing that and being a complete bum inside the house. I occasionally made up my mind to go somewhere, but ended up finishing my Amazon Prime Borrowed book on my kindle and relaxing. Sometimes after waking up at 5am non-stop and going to be late, can take a toll.

Some other things I want to address are on the emotional side. I am typically the type to be shy to reveal my real feelings about things, due to them largely being misinterpreted. I am a very passionate being, and I tend to not speak up at opportune times and sometimes that has a negative effect in my personal life. It’s a defense mechanism I will be working on for my entire life. It took me a while to not be a quiet being (I’m loud and funny now) Being an adult and mature. If I am interested in you, then I somewhere somehow deeply believe in you. It will show and I will even tell you so in so many ways. However, that is not to be regarded as being weak. If I feel, or see that something is wrong, or I do not feel is right, then, I will ask questions. Now it will not be an FBI interrogation, however, I will be direct. Direct is what I do very well. It cut’s out the possibility of deflection.

I just want people to understand that if I am passionate about you, I will have many questions for you regarding your life, because I am interested. My dating life is a bit of a comedy at the moment, and I am not getting what I require from people. In order for me to truly get what I want, I have to REQUIRE it from someone. I use to think that my requirements did not have to be stated. Unfortunately the way these guys are set up, you do. So at the moment.

I like someone, I am unsure of his intentions and I am afraid to ask. (Cue that shy introverted girl) Chances are I know it is going to be one of those, “I’m not where I want to be” speeches, because I have the most impeccable way of meeting and liking the right guy at the WRONG time in his life. When are you dimwits going to realize that you will forever be working on yourselves, that that is a life-long process! I am a person wants you for your intellectual worth not what state you are in materialistically, I evidently made that assessment when I first got to know you. I see things like this: even when my physical, and your physical attributes wear away we still have a mental connection and have that person you can talk to about anything, about everything. I’m looking at you for your worth, not what you are currently worth!  You say you want success, well, so do I. You aren’t where you want to be career – wise, financially. Hello! Me too! We are all getting there or working on making our lives more enriched. Why can’t we cake this vertical climb together? I truly don’t get it. That will forever baffle me. I Hope that works out for you and if it does, great. But I’m over here believing in you being your biggest cheerleader and you don’t seem to see me. I am invisible. Thanks for all of your consideration of my awesomeness. I just hope one day it seriously is worth something to someone other than myself, and I truly have the treatment (basics) that I desire. Nothing irrational, just simple and for me kind of thing. Can you tell I am frustrated? I am. I am sure dating will get better, but for now it is not.

Friday Faves

I am taking a page from one of my blogger friends book, thedancingrunner and listing some favorites or things I want.

For starters, I want this coffee mug!

It’s so edgy. Some purchases I made recently, are shoes. I have plenty of flats and shoes for outside of work, but the majority of my work shoes are torn and tattered. So I went to the clearance section of Target and copped these two bad boys.

I live for the clearance/sales at Target. I never buy anything full price unless it speaks to me.
Today I am running on approximately 5 hours of sleep, and I have a session with my trainer. O_O. Wish me luck. I will probably go straight to bed after that! Ha! For anyone who has lost a significant amount of weight, I would like to ask you, do you have a hard time accepting the reality that you are actually achieving your goal, or surpassing it? ,That is currently happening to me. I look in the mirror and I expect to see what I saw in January. Instead I see my physique taking on a more athletic tone, and it’s amazing and hard to really believe that this is my body in metamorphosis. It inspires me to push myself harder to see what else will get a little tighter, or what else will manifest. Hopefully, I don’t sound crazy, but this is truly an experience.

In other fitness news, I would like to get my running mojo back and run more than 3 miles. I feel like my knee is up for it and I would like to push myself to run a 10k. I used to love running, and it was therapy to hear my breath, my feet hit the pavement, and feel my heart beating at a fast, but steady rate. So I found a training schedule for beginners on Women’s Health. They currently have a 10k that is going to be run throughout the country. Here is there training schedule for beginners.:

This is very do-able! Shout out to all my running fanatics! You inspire me. Well, Happy Friday everyone!
