Weekend Recap

My weekend was blissful,

I was recovering all of this weekend, from doing pull ups on Thursday and I got to spend time with friends. I even considered lifting just to alleviate some of the soreness I was experiencing. I may need to invest in a foam roller. Thugging it out can be tough! Look at a progress picture.

This friday, I missed Critical mass yet again. It was for a good reason, I had to pick someone up from the airport. Missing Critical Mass is becoming an unfortunate trend, but hey that is okay. I will get it right one day!

Saturday, I finally got my hair cut into the shape I wanted it. I had to grow out my hair for 2 months, thanks to the bad hair cut I got from my old beautician. I still have about 2 more months of growing for it to be the ideal length it needs to be, but my new hair stylist, Margaret, is FABULOUS!!! She specializes in cutting hair and she did her thing on my hair! If you need a stylist feel free to check out her work or make an online appointment at FabtheSalon.com. I ended my Saturday by having some Boiled crab, Smoked Lobster tails, and shrimp and sausage. YUMMMMMMM!!!!

Sunday, I went to my old Supervisors church, it was family and friends day, where her husband is a pastor. He had a great message! He is a good pastor! I enjoyed his message. His message was about, even when things get tough, keep your hands up and praise him. God can help you in the midst of your troubles and storms in life. After that I chilled tough with Gizmo, took him to the dog park and watched a plethora of shows. Ray Donavin, Newsroom, True Blood, Tia and Tamera and Real Housewives of New Jersey. Whew!

Today I am going to ride my bike. Schwiniqua hasn’t been taken for a ride in a good month. LOL. How was your weekend?

Transformation Tuesdays and some!

Yesterday was Transformation Tuesdays,

It is something I have never participated in until yesterday. I publicly posted to my social networks my weight loss, and my goal of maintaining a healthier lifestyle. I did not expect to have so much support. I am truly thankful for the positive feedback I received. The social networks are not the most positive of places but, yesterday, it was for me! If you didn’t have a moment to read my previous blog, I am 15 lbs down from 198 and currently 7 lbs down from my goal weight. It took me over half the year with set backs, injuries, and snack attacks to just not wanting to workout. I kept going even if I snuck and had whataburger, even if I indulged in cake and apple pies. I pushed through and I hope I motivate someone to keep going. It is tough, nothing worth having is not easy to obtain. You can do it. I am proof!

Here is the picture I posted to Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter

Yesterday I went to my beloved #GarageFit and it was a cardio day. I did 4 sets of 1 min jump rope and 30 seconds of jumping jacks with 2lb weights in each hand. Exhausting! I then did 3 sets of 20 rotating lunges and 15 hills. MY GOODNESS I burned almost a 1000 calories and my heart rate max was 183. I feel the burn a little bit today. Today I am thinking about pumping some air in my bike tires and riding around my neighborhood. I want to participate in Critical Mass this month, but I have other obligations that will preoccupy my time. I can always do the Monday ride, or the Ghost Mass ride to suffice. Anywho happy hump day everybody!

How are your fitness goals coming along? Any set backs? What motivates you to keep going?

Weekend Recap, 15lbs down!

I had a pretty fabulous weekend,

I hope you all did as well. My weekend consisted of participating in my Company’s annual Junior Achievement Bowl – a – Thon, and marathon movie watching. Saturday I woke up at 6am, I am finding that it is rare I sleep in on Saturday, due to all of the commitments I take up. Ah, the life of a responsible, active adult. The Bowl – A – Thon is an annual event that helps raise funds for Junior Achievement, a community outreach program, that teaches children how the economy, and community tie together. I have had the pleasure of working with them for 4 years now, and I was this years Team Captain. We raised $900 dollars plus for the program, and we had a blast bowling!  Here is a picture:

Taking Achievement to Millions Bowling Team!

After all that good fun, I went home and watched a boat load of movies! My dog of course, I had to play fetch with him every now and then, but he was pretty much sleep the entire time. I posted a funny picture of him on IG too. I ended that day pretty much sleeping. Sunday, I went to the Dog Park and Gizmo got humped profusely by this male Poodle mix. He was so annoyed. I love the dog park, it is an excellent way to connect with other dog lovers. I enjoy it. I ended my day by watching True Blood, RHNJ, Ray Donovan, Newsroom, and Tia and Tamera. All good shows. Also! I have lost 15 lbs to date. Exciting. I am only 7lbs away from my goal weight! (175!!!) I am too excited. 175 is pretty skinny for a 6 foot woman. I can’t believe at the beginning of the year I was 2lbs away from 200! :-O Scary. Change has come and is here to stay!

WordPress Anniversary!

Do you know what today is?!

It’s my WordPress anniversary! How exciting. Well I would like to thank my sister for letting me know that WordPress was an excellent choice as a platform for blogging. I appreciate her, I would not have had the amazing opportunity to connect with bloggers that I have in the past 12 months.

Yesterday I worked out with my trainer and boy, I sweated. I ran for 1 minutes, then we went right into 1 minute 30 second planks, jumping jack planks(My informal description), side planks, situps of every kind. Bad punches, rope thrusts and jumping jacks in 96 degree weather. We got it in. Despite me and my chronic run in with an occasional wasp(I think they are stalking me wherever I go)  I did not complain! This is big. lol. I was so dead after this workout. I needed that. I did not bring my polar so, I have no clue what I burned or what my heart rate was.

I ended Thursday by watching the Chernobyl movie. It was cool, and very creepy. I turned on the lights and hugged Gizmo. lol. Hopefully everyone has a great weekend and thank you for journeying with me on this one year blogging span. I appreciate you all!

Monday Game Changers

It’s Monday!

How was everyone’s weekend? Hopefully blissful. Mine was a busy one. I spent the earlier part of my Saturday getting my hair done buying a crate for my dog, and getting an oil change. So interesting huh? I also hung out with my friend Karena and we headed off to our Friends child birthday party. It was in this beautiful location on the Northside of Houston called the Mercer Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Such beauty check out the website if you are looking for some amazing outdoorsy things to do.

Karena, Josiah and I!

It was fun. Thanks to my bright colors, a Wasp fell in love with me and kept following me. I am absolutely terrified of those creatures. So I looked crazy ducking and dodging. LOL. After that I went back home and fell asleep. For HOURS. I ended up making it an HBO night and watched Looper. Boy that movie was very interesting! Crazy ending. Bruce Willis typically stars in great movies. I did not see that ending coming.

Today I am introducing another #GameChanger this one involves Michael Jordan.

He was an amazing athlete in his prime and has set the standard for where basketball skills across the board are today. With 5 MVP’s and 10 – All time NBA awards. There is no denying this mans talent. Michael was the best in Attack and Defense when it came to basketball. His fluidity in mastering these two skills and combining him made him one of the biggest threats to other teams in the NBA that were not the Chicago Bulls.

Jordan was the first complete basketball players and this is another reason why he is considered a #GameChanger. According to Tribesports,  He was “One who combined strength, pace, power, scoring prowess, defensive skill and sheer heart and determination. Jordan showed that to be the best basketball player you need to have everything. He showed it was possibly to lead the scoring charts, while also leading the defensive charts. He ushered in a new era, where the all-rounder was king and he undoubtedly raised the bar for future basketball stars. “

You can see a synopis of his Game Changing events at Tribesports by following this link here

I hope you enjoyed today’s #GameChanger I have a few more I will post.

Friday Game Changers

It’s Friday!

It is almost everyones favorite day of the work week. Hope everyone is having a marvelous Friday. This weekend, I have plans to get my hair did (Intentional) and go to my friends Sons 2nd Birthday Party! Baby Sye(Josiah) is an adorable wonderful little guy and I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Now all I have to figure out is what do 2 year olds like?! I hear Yo Gabba Gabba is all the rage for kids his age. I am sure I will figure it out.

Tribesports wanted me to introduce you to some Game Changing Facts with you. Game changers are events in sports that changed the dynamics in sports or competitive competitions forever. They gave me  four to choose from over the course of this week and next week I will introduce a few of them.

The 1st one is for all of my Runners out there. Scientists said that it was physically impossible to Run a mile in under four minutes. That there was no way a human could keep a steady pace of 15 mph up to make that mark. Well, Roger Bannister trained for years to prove this theory wrong and prevailed! The current record holder is  Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco in 1999 (3:43:13).

If you are a Tribesports member, I encourage you to join the #GameChangers tribe. You can do so here.

Another Friday Gem I will leave is the preview of Mayer Hawthorne’s latest album Where does this Door Go. He is blue eyed soul, good feeling type of music. It’s eclectic. I love his music and he is amazing if you have a moment check out the link and let me know what you think! Album Sneak Peak. His album will be released on July 16th

What is everyone doing this weekend?! I hope something fun!

Garage Fit, Beauty Overhaul and etc

On tuesday,

20130711-122542.jpg

I went for more Garage fit. He worked my lower back, and ab muscles and helped me with my knee’s flexibility. I cannot sit on my feet comfortably. So, he gave me homework and told me to practice it so I could get a better range of motion. I really think it has more to do with my nerves than anything. I will get through this!!! I burned 600+ calories and fell asleep before my head hit the pillow. Gizmo, naturally was not excited about that. My dog lives for a game a fetch. I don’t. LOL. But his interests are my interests.

I have been in the business of buying new shoes. Shoes for leisure. I have a tendency to wear shoes out, because I wear them repeatedly. I have holes and cracks and some in a lot of my favorite shoes. So, I bought new ones!!! This certainly was not planned, but when you follow a gangload of fashionistas and have a few as friends, the shopping bug will bite you! So this is what I bought! (Can you tell I am excited)

and while searching for these shoes I found a lot more deals. Target is having a nice sale! I need a second job to support my recent shoe fetish. LOL.

Yesterday, I had my root canal and crown put in and I looked like a blow fish. Whatever they numbed me with was amazing. I had a great rapport with my Endodontist(A dentist who only does root canals) and my doctor. Take a look at my pic:

Today was supposed to be a Garage Fit day, but something came up with my trainer, so I may just ride my bike. I haven’t rode in 3 weeks! Crazy!!!! Well I hope everyone is doing fine. I am just excited to finally be back to normal!

My 4th

I’ve been missing for a few days. I have had one interesting 4th of July. I had severe tooth pain that prevented me from  doing anything but trying to take the pain away.I broke down into tears had me in tears. I mean I was desperate. The pain started mildly at on July 3rd and progressively got worse. By the 4th I was desperate and looked up a dentists on ZocDoc (An awesome site with a large range of Doctors, Dentists, Optometrists, and specialists, that allows you to book with them online). Of course, very few doctors were open. I booked an appointment with one hoping she would show up and called her several times to see if she would confirm my appointment. It was a holiday after all, and I just didnt want to take any chances. So I guess she put her personal number on the site by mistake and texted me, “Who is this?” I informed her of my dental emergency and she agreed to meet me. She tried to get me to go to other Dentists and I begged her to see me or at least help me with the infection. (I had inflammation in my gums, ew I know). She prescribed me Amoxicillin( Pill form of Penicillin, and some ibuprofen). So I finally had a little relief after hours of being in absolute agony. I made an appointment to see her the next day. Work kept calling me. I was on call. I eventually texted my boss my situation and that the back up person would need to take over. They STILL called me. I could not even think. Throughout the 4th, I slept. That is all I could do, the pain pills were not working but for 2 hours at a time and I knew I would need something stronger, like Vicodin. I am not fond of pills, but in this case, I NEEDED them. That would be the only way I would be able to make it through the night. I even contemplated drinking and taking some pills so I could be sleepy and sleep. A toothache will make you think of doing some dangerous things.

So, I had a friend with some left over Vicodin from a knee surgery and I took one to sleep. That lasted me 4 hours. YIKES. Any time I have taken Vicodin for pain (knee, dental work etc) I have been knocked out cold. Completely. So I took some ibuprofen and tried to sleep. I really didn’t. The only thing that I know that I find soothing, is taking a hot bath. I took like 4 throughout the night. In the morning, I woke up groggy from my non sleep, and took another Vicodin hoping I would be able to get ready for work. It worked, but It made me so sleepy.  I fell asleep in the bathtub. Put on my work pants and fell asleep again. I wasn’t late for work. LOL. But I was in pain, answering calls, and everyone who saw me was like O_O  You need to go home. As soon as another co worker got in I left. I had to wait until 2pm that day to get some relief. They numbed me up and cleaned out the infected tooth. I have to get a root canal and a crown, but I will be okay. I just recommend you do not go more than 6 months without seeing a dentist. That was my downfall. This root canal and crown is going to cost me $1,000+.

#GarageFit

What is #garagefit?

Well a trainer I met last month that participated in Critical Mass has a gym in his garage simple. You go, you run you lift you do rope thrusts, squats, all in the garage and heat. Sounds effective. Well it is, I will be going back. I did not take into account that I was out of shape sort of being that I did not  workout for the past two weeks because of studying. I also did not take into account that the heat and the intensity of my workout almost made me loose the tamales I hurriedly scarfed down earlier that day. I did not eat properly, so I started to feel queasy and dizzy. So I could not go as hard as I wanted to but it was amazing!  I had fun and I will take pictures next time. Here is me after the workout and some sugar cookies to make me feel better. All in all I burned 546 calories in 46 minutes!

wa

I had to workout in this gear and to me this is a tad bit sexay! I like it 🙂 My workout clothes never look sexy, ever. So this even surprised me that I was wearing, dare I say it?! BOOTY SHORTS. (these are totally appropriate, but I like to think that these are booty shorts). When I showed up to #garagefit there were a few guys there and they all stopped talking. I guess I should take that as they thought I looked awesome. Being super self conscious, that was a bit uncomfortable. But, I have to build confidence somewhere! I had to put it in perspective. I am down 12lbs, and 10lbs away from my goal weight. So I better WERK those booty shorts! *dances and emphasizes!* 🙂
